The Toronto Trans Alliance is working in consultation with the trans community to establish a permanent memorial to members of our community who are sadly no longer with us.
These individuals are victims of transphobia, which is still commonplace in our society. Transphobia is responsible for these deaths both directly through violent attacks against members of the trans community and indirectly by undermining our mental health leading to epidemic of suicides.
We believe that the planned Trans Memorial will be the first such monument anywhere in the world. (Contact us if you know of another!)
Questions to be Resolved
- Where should the permanent Trans Memorial be constructed?(Ballot question on location of Trans Memorial)
- What form should the memorial take?
- Should the memorial include the names of individuals? If so, which names should be included? Those from Toronto, from Ontario, from Canada or worldwide?
